Body Mass Index

Di Singapur, semua murid sekolah dimonitor berat badannya. Kalau kegemukan,….mereka harus berolah raga saat istirahat tiba,….kasihan juga sih,.. tapi ini kan untuk kebaikan mereka juga.

From Health Promotion Board SIngapore:

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person’s weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.
Are You In The Healthy Range?
Check your Body Mass Index (BMI) using the BMI formula that takes into account both your height and weight.

BMI = Weight (Kg) / (Height (M) x Height (M))

The recommended BMI cut-offs for Asian:

BMI (kg/m2) for Adults ---> Health Risk
27.5 and above ---> High Risk
23 – 27.4 ---> Moderate Risk
18.5 – 22.9 ---> Low Risk (healthy range)
Below 18.5 ---> Risk of nutritional deficiency diseases and osteoporosis
